A Little History
Big River Golf Course has been serving Umatilla since 1948
Big River Golf Course started out in the late 1940’s as a 9 hole course under the name McNary Golf and Country Club. The course was originally designed as a form of recreation for the workers building the McNary Dam.
The second nine holes were added in 1968 and the course changed hands several times in the initial years of operation using multiple names including McNary Golf Course and Umatilla Golf Course. Dale Miller purchased the course in 1988 and maintained ownership until 2007.
In 2007, Umatilla Golf Course was purchased by private owners and the name was changed to Big River Golf Course to honor the heritage of the Columbia and the location of the course. Big River Golf Course LLC owned and operated the course until December 2020, when it was sold to the City of Umatilla.
